One man, a scale, and the argument for sound money since 2009.
Dinar Wakala began in Pakistan in 2009, registered as EGold (Pvt.) Ltd, and was the first organisation in the country to sell dinar and dirham coins. The first coins were imported from the e-dinar mint in Malaysia. There was no mint of our own, only the conviction that money ought to be a weight of metal.
In 2011, working with Amir Ismail Bryant and the Muslim community of North Carolina, Dinar Wakala LLC in Texas struck the American Silver Dirham and then the American Gold Dinar: the first dinar and dirham minted in North America, certified by the World Islamic Mint and approved by the American Open Currency Standard. The 5 dirham followed in 1436 AH and the Malcolm X 10 dirham in 2016.
We are small on purpose. Three coins, a published formula for the price, and a promise to buy our coins back. Alongside the coins, the founder has produced a documentary and written the first Urdu-language book on the dinar, because the case for sound money is the reason the mint exists.
